Thursday, May 10, 2007 Gentlemen - Start Your Engines Far from being forgotten, the legendary Mille Miglia race that ran from 1927 to 1957 is actively commemorated by this magnificent annual parade of historic cars of the types which ran in the original event. It is seventh heaven for those of us who love both Italy and old competition cars to position yourself high in the Apennines to watch the 300 plus competitors storming the Futa or Raticosa passes. The Mille Miglia will not see one racer in the future anymore. Volker Hardick, a good friend, has died last year unexpectedly and will always be remembered. But there is not only The Mille Miglia, starting in Brescia this year on the 17th of May and ending there on the 20th of May, there are also quite a few additional historic race events during the remaining 2007 to come, that might catch your attention. Among those are the Historic Grand Prix of Porto (13. - 15th of July), the Goodwood Revival on the 1. & 2. of September, the Spa Six Hours Race(5th-7th October) and the Grand Prix Historique of Tunis from the 15th -28th of October. This years classic motoring events have already included the Retromobile in Paris in February and the Techno Classica in Essen, that ended on the 1. of April. But luckily there is still the Goodwood Festival of Speed to come on the 23th and 24th of June 2007. Spend a long summer weekend at the magnificent Goodwood Estate in Chichester, Great Britain, where scores of cars are flown across the world to participate in what is without doubt perhaps the largest and most diverse classic motor sports event in the world and you will never regret, that you did.
