The decision to build road-going versions of their winning six-cylinder 300 SL racers changed that forever, although most SLs built after the original run, including the beauteful Roadsters, were designed as luxurious grand tourers.The iconic Gullwing SL Coupe, built from 1955 to 1957, continued very much in line with the Mercedes-Benz racers from the past. When the Coupe was replaced by the 300 SL Roadster,the brand moved more toward comfort. The interior was redone with luxury in mind and the access was eased with the use of conventional doors. No matter how you look at it, these two models of the Mercedes-Benz brand will always be remembered as masterpieces of their decade.
