Lee Iacocca had the right ingredients in the beginning of the 1960´s. He realized that the US car market, was missing a young and trendy automobile for all the young people, that had just gotten their drivers licences. The car needed to be sporty, compact and cheap. The car Iacocca invented premiered in 1964 and hit the market like a bomb. Its name was Ford Mustang and could be bought for as low as 2500 US Dollar. In the first year of production there were more than 600.000 Mustangs sold. Some of these Mustangs were very special cars, that got into the hands of Carroll Shelby, an ex- racecar driver and tuner, the inventor of the Cobra, who had the cars, that he modified, painted in the american race car colors blue and white. He altered the interior and gave the cars a 306 hp 4.7 litre engine. Only 500 street and race versions of this kind were produced in 1965 and were called Shelby GT 350. The Mustang has survived rust and mediocre production quality over the years that followed the 60´s, and is running strong today.
