Porsche: Electric Boxters In 2011
Porsche has been ramping up its vehicle electrification program, ranging from the plug-in hybrid 918 Spyder concept and the 911 GT3R Hybrid racer to the new Cayenne hybrid that recently went into production. The latest addition to the electric drive program is a trio of experimental Boxsters that are powered purely by electrons.
Porsche has yet to reveal any technical details about the three drop-top EVs, but they will be used to test the drivetrain systems as well as infrastructure needs. This field test intended to also provide further findings on the infrastructure required for electromobility, user behaviour and the demands made of future products, is to start in early 2011.
Michael Macht, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, sees this contribution made by Porsche as absolutely essential: "We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche."
Porsche has been committed to electric mobility for a long time, thus helping to preserve the environment and save resources in our world: The spectacular concept study of the 918 Spyder high-performance mid-engined sports car with plug-in hybrid combines high-tech breakthroughs in engine technology and electromobility with a truly fascinating range of further qualities. Emissions otherwise to be found only on a super-mini of just 70 g/km CO2 with three litres fuel consumption for 100 kilometres in the NEDC (equal to 94.1 mpg imp), come with the performance of a super sportscar developing well over 600 horsepower.
Take a look at some of the cars and news in todays magazine and we are sure you will enjoy, what you see. We greatly appreciate your interest and enthusiasm. Any ideas how to improve our news ? Just send us a mail to info@racingdeal.com
Happy Holidays

Goodwood Revival : A Magical Step Back In Time 17. 18. 19. September 2010
The Goodwood Revival really is a magical step back in time, a unique chance to revel in the glamour and allure of motor racing in the romantic time capsule of the golden era of motor racing at one of the world’s most authentic circuits. The Revival is the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 50s and 60s that relives the glory days of Goodwood Motor Circuit. It is the biggest and best historic motor racing party of the year.Last year The Revival had 132,000 visitors over the 3 day period!
The Revival offers visitors the opportunity to leave the ‘modern world’ behind and join motor sport luminaries including Sir Stirling Moss, Richard Attwood, John Surtees and Derek Bell in an unabashed celebration of flat-out wheel-to-wheel racing around a classic racetrack, untouched by the modern world. So The Revival is far more than a series of races for historic cars. It's a chance for visitors to revel in the romance and theatre of motor racing as it used to be. The lovingly restored circuit is unchanged from its heyday, and great lengths are taken to ensure that everything on the site is exactly as it was.
This means that the majority of visitors wear appropriate period clothing and no modern vehicles are allowed within the circuit perimeter throughout the weekend.
There are also theatrical sets that bring the past back to life and a celebration of aviation heritage with some stunning aerial manoeuvres throughout the skies above this WWII former aerodrome. You can also see a fantastic selection of rarely-seen pre-1966 aircraft on static display in the Freddie March ‘Spirit of Aviation’.
Since its inauguration in 1998 The Revival relives the glory days of Goodwood Motor Circuit, which ranked alongside Silverstone as Britain’s leading racing venue throughout its active years between 1948 and 1966.
During this time, it hosted contemporary racing of all kinds, including Formula One, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and the celebrated Tourist Trophy sports car race.
Today, for three days each September, this historic circuit stages a race meeting for the kind of cars and motorcycles that would have competed at Goodwood during 1948-1966. The circuit echoes to the spine-tingling bark of golden-age Grand Prix cars from the 50s and 60s, thundering sports and GT cars, as well as historic saloon cars and little-seen Formula Juniors.
Many of these important historic racing cars are driven by famous faces from motor sport past and present. Sir Stirling Moss, John Surtees, Sir Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, Derek Bell, David Coulthard, Damon Hill, Gerhard Berger, Johnny Herbert, Wayne Gardner, Giacomo Agostini and the late, great Barry Sheene have all taken part at the Revival.
The cars and motorcycles making up each starting grid at the Goodwood Revival are carefully selected from the most authentic historic racers. Many will have raced at Goodwood in the past, and all capture the essence of bygone motor racing right down to the finest detail.
Each year, around 360 cars and motorcycles compete in 16 different races. Entry is by invitation only from the Earl of March. Not all of the races are staged each year and the eligibility for others may change in any given year, so the racing always promises something fresh. The race names have historical reference, matching those used when the circuit was previously used for competition.

The Photographic Diary (Part 5): The BOSS GP At The RMU Classic
This years RMU Classic in Spa Francorchamps saw many different race classes with large grids and a perfect weather condition. The FIA Historic GP, the Group C and the Supersports Cup were spectacular as ever. But the most sensational apperance was set by the new established BOSS GP.
In the BOSS GP, race cars from the Formula 1 class will go head to head against Champcars, Indycars and World Series by Nissan and Renault. “These series are built on speed, spectacle and noise and will be a true paradise for the drivers as well as for the motor sport fans,” says one of the participating drivers, Marijn van Kalmthout . The abbreviation BOSS stands for Big Open Single Seaters. There are two different classes in the BOSS GP. In the ‘Open’ Class, Formula 1 cars (built from 1990 until 2005), Champcars and Indycars will participate. In the Masters Class, cars from Formula 1, Indycar and Champcar (prior to 1990) will race against Formula 3000 and World Series Nissan and Renault.
So far the facts of this brand new racing series. Yes, they are race monsters, very quick, incredible loud and beautiful to watch. But to say it clear I was a little confused looking for example at a Bennetton B 197 F1 racingcar not painted in the original colours like it was in 1997. For me it is one of the most important and fascination things at historic motorracing to relive the cars in the most original paint.
OK, this is my personal opinion, but the race performance of this series is definetly great, the sound is quite exceptional and the races were thrilling. Also it is a chance to watch Indy- or Champcars of the near past. They look quite different to Formula One cars, they are singleseater too but the proprotions are unlike to F1 cars.
The next race of the BOSS GP were held on the traditionally Nürburgring at the famous 69. ADAC Eifelrennen. I have take some pictures on both events so you are able to get an idea of the event.
For the results of the RMU Classic race please visit : www.rmuclassic.be, for the BOSS GP have a look at : www.bossgp.com and for the Eifelrennen please watch www.adac-eifelrennen.de .

Ex-Works Lotus Ford Cosworth DFV Piston
Lotus and the Ford Cosworth DFV engine are inextricably linked.Colin Chapman, Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin worked together to create the greatest engine motor sport has ever seen. The DFV powered F1 cars from 1967 to 1985, an astonishing 19 seasons in the rarified atmosphere of Grand Prix where innovation was king and one season’s World beater would be next season’s backmarker. In the 70s and 80s the team was in the habit of keeping the pistons from rebuilds to use as VIP gifts.Classic Team Lotus also keeps the pistons from the rebuilds of the engines it maintains today and with a great deal of polishing, then mounting on a wooden plinth, complete with presentation plaque, makes a rather special item of memorabilia.
These pistons come with a certifiate issued by Classic Team Lotus, signed by Clive Chapman.
